May marks National Walking Month, a time to get outside, reconnect with ourselves and take steps towards something that truly matters if you're part of the UK charity community.
At Zen Fundraising, we know movement can do more than boost physical health. It can create connections, drive change and start conversations that lead to long-term impact.
This month, we’re spotlighting some of the incredible walking challenges being run by our charity peers and inviting everyone to take a few meaningful steps in support.
Walk for something more
Many of the UK’s most respected charities have turned May into a walking-powered movement for good. Here are just a few ways you can get involved:
Walk 100 Miles in May for Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Now, or Marie Curie, supporting everything from life-saving research to end-of-life care.
Walk 31 Miles in May with Dementia UK, raising funds for families living with the daily realities of dementia.
Join Mind’s Trek Challenges, from the Jurassic Coast to London 2 Brighton, helping people facing mental health challenges.
Step up with British Heart Foundation and it's 'Walk for Hearts' campaign
Make sure to check out JustGiving and many others offering local and national walking events.
These campaigns are a brilliant way to support the causes close to your heart, one step at a time.
And if you’re not sure where to start, platforms like Timeoutdoors make it easy. Their searchable directory connects people to hundreds of charity walks and treks by date, location, distance and difficulty, so you can find a challenge that works for you or your fundraising team.

We aren't simply 'talking the talk'!
As a professional fundraising agency, movement is baked into our DNA. Our Door-to-door and street fundraising teams connect people to causes they care about. We know the power of knocking on a door, starting a conversation and leaving someone inspired to act. Many team members love being outdoors, staying active and getting their steps in. And even better, while making a genuine difference with every conversation. For those who thrive on energy, connection and fresh air, fundraising offers purpose and pace in equal measure.
But this May, we’re thinking about movement in its broader sense. We're reflecting on how we can move people (including ourselves!) That might mean walking to clear your head, pacing a quiet street with your fundraising team, or clocking up steps while raising awareness for a charity you love.
Our Zen ethos is about creating balance and impact; in fundraising, in life and yes, even in how we walk through the world.
Why walking matters

Walking may seem simple, but when done with purpose, it’s powerful. It gives us time to think, space to reset, and a reason to be outside. And when we do it as part of a collective - across workplaces, families, friends and communities - it becomes something much bigger.
So, whether you’re a seasoned fundraiser, a charity supporter, or someone just trying to move more this May, we see you. Your steps count.
So this month, we encourage you to:
✔️ Walk for your wellbeing
✔️ Walk for someone you love
✔️ Walk for change
And if you’re fundraising along the way, we’d love to cheer you on. Tag us @zenfundraising and share your challenge - we’ll be walking with you in spirit.
See you on the path,
The Zen Fundraising Team 💜
