November is a special month in the world of philanthropy and giving back. It's a time when individuals, communities, and organisations come together to celebrate generosity and positively impact the world.
The month is filled with awareness days and magical movements that inspire acts of kindness and giving. It's no coincidence it comes before the month of Christmas. We can easily get lost in impulsive financial transactions and indulgent giving that we forget that small acts of kindness may be more sustainable, ethical, and kind to our world.
In this blog post, we'll explore the significance of November as a month of philanthropy and the joy of giving that makes it so unique.

The Power of Giving Tuesday:
One of the standout events in November is Charity Tuesday, also known as Giving Tuesday, which falls on the 28th of the month. It's a day dedicated to charitable giving and encourages people to support the causes that matter most to them. As a non-profit, you may use this day to raise funds, engage with their supporters, and amplify their missions.
November provides a unique platform for charities and nonprofit organisations to connect and transform communities. It's a time when the spotlight shines brightly on philanthropic efforts.
NGOs can connect with new audiences and garner support for their causes by participating in Giving Tuesday or other charitable initiatives during the month. The collective spirit of giving creates a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the month itself.

The Compassion behind Kindness On Monday, 13th November, we came together to celebrate World Kindness Day - a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the world.
Kindness Day originated in 1997 when a group of humanitarian organisations declared a day dedicated to kindness. Here at Zen Fundraising, kindness is at the core of everything we do.
You don't need grand gestures to make a positive impact. Monthly contributions to charities, food banks or charity shop donations and taking part in fundraising events and activities are all excellent ways to spread kindness.
But committing to just one act of kindness today is equally meaningful. Holding the door open for a stranger, complimenting your neighbour's jumper, or hosting a dinner party for friends—these simple acts can brighten someone's day.
We asked our fundraisers what Kindness meant to them. Our Manchester Face-to-Face Fundraiser Edna said:
'Kindness is planting trees in the shade you may never get to sit in. It's being aware that small changes can make the biggest impact on whether someones day is an okay one or a great day. It's a simple smile that could make someone feel that little less lonely.
The world needs more kindness, and this is a thoughtful example of how small acts can make a big difference.
National Philanthropy Day: Another save-the-date for November is National Philanthropy Day, celebrated on 15th.
This day recognises and honours the great contributions that philanthropy—and those who work in the philanthropic process—have made to our world. It's a day to express gratitude for the individuals, organisations, and businesses that dedicate themselves to improving the lives of others through their generous actions.

One of the most beautiful aspects of November's philanthropic focus is the joy that giving brings. Research has consistently shown that acts of kindness, such as giving to others, profoundly impact our well-being. It benefits the recipients and fills the givers' hearts with warmth and fulfillment. Knowing that your contribution, whether big or small, is making a difference is a powerful motivator.
Charities Aid Foundation's UK Giving report found that 20% of people surveyed said they gave to charity because doing so made them feel good.
The Act of giving and its Benefits:
Giving goes beyond providing financial support. It includes volunteering time, skills, or resources to causes that resonate with you. Studies have revealed several emotional and psychological benefits associated with giving:
Generosity triggers the release of "feel-good" chemicals in the brain, leading to increased happiness and reduced stress.
Giving to a meaningful cause can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.
Acts of kindness are linked to improved mental and emotional well-being, promoting a positive outlook on life.
Giving results in stronger bonds with others, creating a sense of community and connection.
November is a great opportunity to embrace the spirit of giving in all its forms. And contributing to a brighter, more compassionate world has many well-researched benefits.
November's philanthropic focus reminds us that there's something truly magical about the act of giving—it not only transforms the lives of others but also enriches our own.
We want to give a big Zen shoutout to our incredible charity partners, the whole of #TeamZen, and the fantastic donors we connect with daily. There are extraordinary people all around us, and we feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside and meet them.
The world needs more kindness. Today. Every day.
